Clinic Profit & Break-Even Calculator
A clinic breaks even when contribution from visits covers fixed costs. Contribution per visit is the collected fee minus practitioner percentage compensation and other variable costs. Break-even visits equal monthly fixed costs divided by contribution per visit, rounded up. Operating profit is visits multiplied by contribution, minus fixed costs, before tax, financing and depreciation.

300 visits, $110 collected per visit, 45% practitioner compensation, $4 other variable cost per visit. Fixed costs: $6,000 rent, $5,000 administration, $600 utilities, $400 software, $1,000 other.
Revenue $33,000.00. Compensation $14,850.00. Contribution per visit $56.50. Operating profit $3,950.00. Margin 11.97%. Break-even 231 visits.
Method
How it's calculated
Revenue = completed visits × collected amount per visit.
Practitioner compensation = revenue × compensation percentage ÷ 100.
Contribution per visit = collected amount × (1 − compensation percentage ÷ 100) − other variable cost per visit.
Operating profit = visits × contribution per visit − monthly fixed costs.
Operating margin = operating profit ÷ revenue × 100, when revenue is above zero.
Break-even visits = monthly fixed costs ÷ contribution per visit, rounded up, when contribution per visit is above zero.

- What does break-even visits mean?
- It is the number of completed visits needed in the month for contribution to cover fixed costs, rounded up. It appears only when contribution per visit is above zero. Otherwise the page says there is no attainable break-even under these assumptions.
- Why does this clinic break even calculator use percentage compensation only?
- Practitioner pay is entered as a percentage of collected visit revenue. For hourly or room-rental models, use the Practitioner Compensation Calculator.
- Should practitioner pay also go in fixed costs?
- No. If you already entered a compensation percentage, do not put that same practitioner pay in rent, administration or other fixed costs. Doing so would count it twice.
- Is operating profit after tax?
- No. Operating profit here is before tax, financing and depreciation. It is an estimate from your assumptions, not a forecast or a personal tax calculation.
